Immediately after the Pentagon was attacked on Sept. 11, 2001, Dee Parlato, from Calvary Chapel Largo, MD, began praying for the men in the room and the decision they were about to make. The room in the Pentagon where Dee would normally have been at that time of day, had just been attacked. This story originally appeared in Issue 9, Fall of 2001.
Andy Deane grew up at Calvary Chapel Old Bridge in New Jersey and attended New York University. He lived blocks from the World Trade Center and worked in its shadow in the fall of 2001. Like many in that area of Manhattan on September 11, Andy ran toward the towers after planes crashed through their upper floors. This is his personal account.
In the days following September 11th, churches throughout the U.S. saw a groundswell in attendance—people who had not been churchgoers sought meaning after the senseless tragedy, and Christians everywhere felt a need to be in fellowship with other believers.
